Lessons
From The Window Seat
This book was written by
my good friend Dave Specht. He's waited over a year to finally get
it published. I may be a little prejudiced, but I think it's a
wonderful book with a refreshing look at the workplace. You won't
be sorry if you purchase this one. Let me know if you buy it and I'll
bet we can get you an autograph!

Weaving the Web
Tim Berners-Lee
is known as "The Father of the WWW". In this book he
takes us from an idea in 1989 to his vision of the future of the
WWW. You'll learn about his concept of a "semantic web"
and how plans are underway to solve the privacy and security issues. If
you are curious about how it all began then this book is a
"must" read.
I've told students for years that Tim
Berners-Lee would be known as the founder of the WWW and now we have the
chance to read his story. It's all happened so fast yet it's nice
to know there's a man with a vision for where it will go. (10/99) |

A New New Thing: A
Silicon Valley Story
A GEM! I haven't enjoyed a book this
much in a long time. Michael Lewis is so good at taking business
topics and making them enjoyable and informative. I encourage
everyone to read this book. It's the story of Jim Clark (Netscape
founder) but told in a way that will enlighten you to the new economy
created by the Internet start-ups. Don't wait. Buy it
now! (1/00)

No
Great Mischief This book is
about a MacDonald family who comes to the U.S. from Scotland.
Because my grandparents were MacDonald's and I'm always interested in
Scottish history I bought this book to learn more. It's an easy
reading fiction account of the family and I enjoyed every minute of it.

Never
Change I bought this book on
CD and listened to it on the way to my sister's cabin 2 hours away.
I honestly didn't want to stop the car when I arrived as I wanted to keep
listening to the story. Elizabeth Berg is one of my favorite writers
and this story of a spinster nurse and her patient kept me spellbound.

The
No Spin Zone
I actually bought this book on CD to listen
to in the car. I do like Bill O'Reilly and his no nonsense approach
to the topics of the day. His book picks several of his highest
profile interviews and gives background and details. I really
enjoyed it. You don't have to agree with him to learn something from
his interviews. (11/01)

I
Know This Much is True Another
one of Oprah's books that turned out to be a GEM. This book captured
me from the first chapter and never let me go! I felt like I lived
with the characters for the 3 weeks it took me to read it and I'll miss
them now that I'm done. It's one of the most well-written books I've ever
read and from a literary perspective deserves some awards. If you
only read one book on my list, I suggest it be this one. Yes, that's
how much I enjoyed it. (1/01) Paperback

A
Return to Love This
is actually my second go around with this book. I read it a few
years ago but just wasn't ready or tuned into it's message. However,
this time I'm learning a lot about a new way to look at life and to
actually find some miracles in my own life. Not for the faint of
heart, but highly recommended. (1/01) Paperback

A
Course in Miracles I'm
planning on taking at least a year to read this one. It's a
wonderful study of spirituality and includes 365 daily lessons. It's
not for the "faint of heart"! (1/01) Hardback

John
Adams This
book has been on the bestseller list all year. I've heard wonderful
things about it and wasn't disappointed when I started reading it.
John Adams was an extraordinary man in an extraordinary time. I
highly recommend this book if you like history. (7/01) Hardback

Race
Across Alaska Yes,
I went to Alaska last summer and actually got to dogsled. So I came
home and bought several books on the topic. This was one of those
books I couldn't stop reading. It's the story of the first woman to
win the Iditarod and a mile by mile description of the race. I was
actually cold at times just reading the book. I highly recommend
it! (8/01) Paperback

Crossing
Over I really
like John Edward! He's a nice young man who has the ability to
contact people who have Crossed Over. I know...it sounds very
strange but after watching his TV show I became fascinated with his
abilities and his approach to the topic. If you are interested at
all this book will answer all your questions. Hardback

Lord
of the Rings Somehow
I missed ever reading the Lord of the Rings. With all the hype about
it with the new movie coming out I decided now was the time to
start. The 3 books combined are 1500 pages but I'm going to give it
a try. I'll let you know what I think. (12/01) Paperback

Cane
River I'm not
a big fan of Ophray's books as they are usually just too predicable and
tragic. However, I enjoyed Cane River which is the story of several
generations of slave women and the journey they took to
freedom. (10/01) Hardback

Miriam's
Song I heard
the brother of Miriam (the author of the book) speak and wanted to read
more about their families story of growing up in Africa. This book
is so graphic and well written you actually feel you are living in the
township with the family. It's a very touching and moving true story
of one families attempt to survive. Highly recommended

Stolen
Lives This
book was a little slow getting started but once I got into the story of
the Moroccan family who was imprisoned because their father had been
involved in a coup I was fascinated. The family as imprisoned in the
most deplorable conditions for 20 years. Once their escape attempt
started I couldn't stop. An exciting and interesting
read! (10/01) Hardback

Nickel
and Dimed Don't
wait another minute before reading this book. It's one of my all
time favorites! Barbara Ehrenreich took 3 months and tried to live
on what a minimum wage worker would earn. That included finding
housing, food and transportation. She tried different jobs including
waitress, housecleaner and Walmart clerk. You will never look at a
minimum wage earner the same way after you read this book.
Please read! (10/01) Hardback
